AFA 09 (i)

It is Anime Festival Asia again for 2009 on . Tickets have now increased to $15 for 1 day and $25 for 2 days. Luckily I was with my friend who had a booth over there. Tickets prices have increased quite abit from AFA08 which was $5 a day and $8 for 2 days. The price hike is probably to cover costs for some of the guests brought in especially for those for the concert. There is from AFA08 May'N known from Macross Frontier Sheryl Nome's singing voice, anime song singer Ichirou Mizuki known for singing Mazinger Z, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann singer Shoko Nakagawa and JAM Project member Yoshiki Fukuyama known for singing Macross. Also one of the most famous bloggers, at least in the otaku community, Danny Choo, is also coming.

There are also a few competitions, other than the Bandai World Gundam Competition, the more interesting event I find would be the Asia Regional Cosplay Champuionship where teams from Philipines, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and our very own Singapore will compete. Think one of the most anticipated cosplayer will be Alodia from Philipines, known from her Danny Choo's Otacool book where it features her in a toy filled room. She is known, by most guys I believe, for her love for cosplaying, anime, manga, toys as well as her photography and most of all her looks. Well I think she is every otaku's dream girlfriend, pretty, hot and supports and shares almost similar hobbies of an otaku ha.. She was dressed as Amaha Masane from Witchblade with her sister. Well suprisingly the winner of the cosplay event went to Singapore team with the Gundam cosplay.

Overall I find this year's AFA was not too bad but the price was quite steep given it is just in the second year. The main attraction was probably the concert but there wasn't really much to buy. Think Bandai had the biggest booth but I didnt think the sales was fantastic as the crowd was really different. It was more an event for anime and manga lovers which will lead them to figures from the anime and manga as well, mainly Figmas, Revoltech and Nendroids and some PVCs. For non-anime lovers, it would probably not be an event which you would love and probably STCC would be more to your liking. Well hope next year would be a better year with more things to look forward to.
